چکیده

The objective of this work was to develop and assess an automatic procedure to generate reduced chemical schemes for the atmospheric photooxidation of volatile organic carbon (VOC) compounds. The procedure is based on (i) the development of a tool for writing the fully explicit schemes for VOC oxidation (see companion paper Aumont et al., 2005), (ii) the application of several commonly used reduction methods to the fully explicit scheme, and (iii) the assessment of resulting errors based on direct comparison between the reduced and full schemes. The reference scheme included seventy emitted VOCs chosen to be representative of both anthropogenic and biogenic emissions, and their atmospheric degradation chemistry required more than two million reactions among 350 000 species. Three methods were applied to reduce the size of the reference chemical scheme: (i) use of operators, based on the redundancy of the reaction sequences involved in the VOC oxidation, (ii) grouping of primary species having similar reactivities into surrogate species and (iii) grouping of some secondary products into surrogate species. The number of species in the final reduced scheme is 147, this being small enough for practical inclusion in current threedimensional models. Comparisons between the fully explicit and reduced schemes, carried out with a box model for several typical tropospheric conditions, showed that the reduced chemical scheme accurately predicts ozone concentrations and some other aspects of oxidant chemistry for both polluted and clean tropospheric conditions. Catalytic Performance and Kinetic Study in the Total Oxidation of VOC over Micro/Meso Porous Catalysts

The total oxidation of toluene at a wide temperature range (200–500 oC) over micro/mesoporous platinated catalysts has been investigated about activity, selectivity to CO2 and CO, catalyst's stability versus coke deposition and reaction kinetics. Kinetic of toluene oxidation was measured under various oxygen and toluene pressures and als...

Ozone response to precursor controls in very complex terrains: Use of photochemical indicators to assess O3-NOx-VOC sensitivity in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula

[1] The kinetics of ozone (O3) chemistry and its two main precursors, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOC), represents an important field of uncertainty in atmospheric chemistry and photochemical modeling. This uncertainty affects the design of control strategies to reduce tropospheric O3 production. The effect of controlling ozone precursors on sensitivity regimes was eva...

Investigation of the Activity of Nano Structure Mn/γ-Al2O3 Catalyst for Combustion of 2-Propanol

This paper reports results of a study regarding the activities of nano structure Mn/γ-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3 catalysts for oxidation of 2-propanol (as a model of volatile organic compound). Nanostructure of catalysts was revealed using XRD, SEM and TEM techniques. Catalytic studies were carried out in U-shaped packed bed reactor under atmospheric pressure and at the reaction temperature of 150- 500°...

Vertical profiles of NO3, N2O5, O3, and NOx in the nocturnal boundary layer: 2. Model studies on the altitude dependence of composition and chemistry

[1] Recent field observations in urban areas have shown that trace gases, such as O3, NO2, and NO3, develop distinct vertical concentration profiles at night. Because nocturnal chemistry can change the gas-phase and particulate composition in the urban boundary layer considerably, it is important to understand the mechanisms that lead to the change of trace gas levels with altitude. The quantif...
